Learn the art of live storytelling. Over the course of four weeks, you'll excavate and flesh out a compelling personal story in a very supportive environment. Learning this craft can be life-changing! You'll understand how to gingerly brush up against difficult places, fears or obstacles and move into and through them and into them giving you access to the fertile ground of hidden details, scenes, and stakes that lie within you ready to be revealed for the stage, screen, podcast, or manuscript. 

 

Through basic oral storytelling structure, you'll gain the tools of narrative construction that will give rise to humor from even the darkest of details, or challenge you to rethink what you thought were some of the funny details of your life that holy hell turn out to be some of the most full of pathos. All kinds of twists and turns await you! 

 

One of the best parts about taking the class is the process automatically helps you remember story after story after story you'd forgotten about that you'll be excited to shape (with your new tools!) and tell in whatever form of media floats your boat.

Brian Stephen Ellis is a writer and storyteller who has been story coaching with the BACKFENCE storytelling series since 2014, as well as teaching storytelling through Portland Community College since 2017.
